Voices of Black Grandmothers – Maryland Chapter

The Voices of Black Grandmothers (VOBG) Maryland Chapter is a local extension of our national movement, created to uplift, support, and connect Black grandmothers across the state of Maryland.

Rooted in community, culture, and care, the Maryland Chapter provides a space for connection, storytelling, advocacy, and intergenerational support—honoring the wisdom and leadership of Black grandmothers at every stage of life.

Our Purpose

The VOBG Maryland Chapter exists to:

  • Create safe, supportive spaces for Black grandmothers

  • Build intergenerational connections within families and communities

  • Support grandmothers raising grandchildren and kinship caregivers

  • Preserve local stories and legacy through storytelling

  • Participate in statewide and national advocacy efforts

What We Do

The Maryland Chapter hosts:

  • Regular chapter meetings (virtual and in-person)

  • Community gatherings, workshops, and listening circles

  • Storytelling and legacy-sharing opportunities

  • Participation in National Black Grandmothers Day (February 7)

  • Local outreach aligned with national VOBG initiatives

Who Can Join

Membership is open to:

  • Black grandmothers of all ages

  • Young and non-traditional grandmothers

  • Grandmothers raising grandchildren

  • Women who support and advocate for Black grandmothers

Members must be part of the national Voices of Black Grandmothers community and agree to the chapter guidelines and code of conduct.
